There are quite many healthy bars available in market today but the downside is you can never be sure of the hidden calories in them so the best way to eat healthy is do it yourself. These are simple to prepare and requires least efforts, further you are ensured you are eating something good and nutritious

These delicious and healthy bars are perfect for both kids and adults. I have used mix of wheat and buckwheat flour to make it nutritious. This recipe was inspired from the net. You can use Maida (All purpose flour) as per original recipe, I prefer it to be healthy hence I have modified the original recipe to make it as nutritious as possible

You can play around with the ingredients to suit the taste and make it as healthy as possible. So next time before you reach out to those “healthy bars” in store, do try this recipe and I am sure you will never go to stores to buy the bars again

Preparation time: 10 mins Cooking time: 25 mins Total time: 35 mins

Servings: 5 people


  • 1 cup oats
  • 1/4 cup Buckwheat flour
  • 1/2 cup  whole wheat flour
  • 8 tbsp unsalted butter melted
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar/ coconut sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon Ginger powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 250 g ripe strawberries diced
  • 1-2 tbsp sugar
  • 1.5 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice

Steps to prepare

  • Preheat oven to 170 deg Cel and line square baking tray with parchment paper
  • In a bowl ,mix flours, Ginger powder, salt, coconut sugar and oats well
  • Add butter and mix until mixture is moistened and well coated
  • Add half of the mixture to pan and spread evenly. Using a bowl, press on bottom
  • In another bowl, add strawberries. To this, add lemon juice, cornstarch, sugar and toss well
  • Now spread strawberry mix evenly on top of the oats mixture
  • Spread remaining reserved oats mix on top such that strawberry peeks out little from crumbs
  • Bake for 25-35 minutes until oats are well toasted and golden
  • Allow to cool completely
  • Slice and serve. You can always cover these bars with cling wrap and freeze upto 1 month. Alternatively vanilla sugar glaze can be added on top for additional taste.
