Post marriage, every time I visited my hubby’s hometown Palakkad, , I often had Mutta Bonda (Egg Kebabs) in evenings with steaming cup of tea and loved goring on it. So this weekend , I decided it was time for me to make this easy, simple and delicious Egg kebabs

These kebabs are also often made during Ramzan (Iftaar) and is quite popularly served as snack. This can also be served as an appetizer

*You can bake this kebabs too in the oven, the fried version tastes better than the baked version. Adjust the spices to suit the taste buds. You can add chopped cilantro too to the potato mixture. Adjust the quantity of breadcrumbs as required

**Incase you are unable to shape the potatoes, you can add cornstarch as binder

Servings: 2-4

Ingredients

  • 4 hard boiled eggs
  • 2 potatoes boiled and mashed
  • 1 small onion finely chopped
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1 beaten egg
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs

Steps to prepare

  • Heat oil in a pan
  • Add chopped onions to the pan
  • Saute until onions are translucent
  • Add boiled mashed potatoes to the pan
  • Add in all spice powders and salt to the pan. Mix well until mixture comes together to form a dough
  • Allow the mixture to cool
  • Divide mixture into 4 parts, now flatten the first mixture on palms
  • Place egg at the centre of the mixture
  • Seal the egg completely with potato mixture and do this for the rest of the eggs too
  • Coat the kebab with beaten egg. Shake off the excess and then coat well with breadcrumbs. You can refrigerate this kebab and fry later too.
  • Heat oil for frying
  • Deep fry in hot oil over medium heat until golden brown
  • Drain excess oil over tissue paper

  • Slice the kebabs in halves and sprinkle little salt and pepper on top or you can serve the kebab as whole
  • Serve the kebabs immediately with sauce and green chutney
