Simple , easy to prepare , delicious in taste, these Fish fillets are marinated and fried in Kerala style. Now I have prepared fish fillet in various style when I decided to marinate fish fillet the way we Keralites fry regular sea fish. The final result was awesome and tasted too good. You need to use firm fleshed fillets and do not poke or disturb it while its cooking. Once the base is cooked , only then flip it. These can also be shallow fried or baked too

*You can use any oil for frying but coconut oil renders authentic Kerala taste

**You can substitute Shallots with 1 small red onion

Ingredients

  • 500 g Fish fillet pieces, cubed (firm fleshed)
  • Coconut oil for frying

For Marination

  • 1 teaspoon Red Chili powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon Turmeric
  • Juice of 1/2 Lemon
  • Salt to taste
  • 3 Cloves garlic
  • 1 inch Ginger
  • 1 teaspoon Peppercorns
  • 4 pearl onions/Shallots

Steps to prepare

  • Add shallots, dry spices, ginger,spice powders, garlic and salt to grinder
  • Add 3 tbsp water and lemon juice. Grind to smooth paste
  • Marinate fish fillet with paste. Keep it aside for 30 minutes
  • Heat oil for frying.
  • Drop fish fillets in hot oil
  • Fry fish fillet on medium heat. Do not disturb fish while its getting fried else it will break
  • Carefully flip and cook on both sides.
  • Drain excess oil over kitchen towel
  • Serve hot with lime wedges
