Stromboli originated from Philadelphia in Italian heavy neighborhood hence it is also called an Italian American dish. This dish was named after the Italian Isle of Stromboli. Stromboli is actually a volcano in Italy; when you slice the dish, inner fillings and cheese are ready to explode from the dish hence the name. Stromboli is basically made from leftover pizza/bread dough with fillings of Veggies or Cured meat with Mozzarella cheese. This is also sometimes called up as rolled-up cousin of Pizza. This can be served during breakfast, snacks or dinner

Now this dish does require you to use Mozzarella cheese as filling which helps in minimizing moisture and helps to cook the dish from within but only substitute Mozzarella if you are lactose intolerant. I have used seasonings and additional toppings to make this more healthier. Generally egg wash is done and that’s how I do it every time I prepare this dish. Here in order to keep this entire dish Vegetarian , I have done milk wash

*You can increase/reduce the amount of cheese as desired. Also you can substitute cheese with Ricotta cheese/Cashew cheese/Tahini sauce if lactose intolerant

**I have used Cottage Cheese and Veggies, you can use Tofu or Meat or any fillings of your choice. Use Multi grain flour/Whole wheat flour to make this dish healthier

Do watch the video for better clarity in preparation and share your experience once you prepare the dish

  • You can do egg wash or Olive Oil wash or Milk wash on top and sides of the dough
